The FREE Ways to Improve Your Websites Traffic That No One Talks About

It should be no surprise that having a website is essential for the success of any business. No matter how big or small your business is, without a website you immediately lose credibility and people don’t have something to find out more about you before wanting your business.

This very fact means the internet is a very saturated place in terms of websites. Believe it or not there is in excess of 5 billion (yes, with a B) websites out there. Worse still, this number is growing by the 10’s of thousands each and every day.

This bodes the question, “how can I make sure that traffic ends up on my website?”

Most people have been indoctrinated into believing that you need to pay out for expensive web hosting and SEO services in order to achieve this. Today I am going to pull back the curtain and show you the FREE ways to get more website traffic that no one is talking about.

Do This Before You Even Think of Trying to Increase Web Traffic

Before you even start considering all the magical ways that you have to increase your websites traffic you need to fix some of the basics. You need to start with the simple, quick, and easy wins before trying out the more ‘complex’ web traffic voodoo.

As such, let’s park any thoughts about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and finding keywords for now.

The mobile phone. Everyone has one. People use them all the time, so it should not be a shock to learn that most people view websites via their phone over their computers. What does this mean for you and your website? You need to focus on optimising it for mobile viewing. Of course, you still need it to be optimised for desktop, but mobile > desktop.

If someone looks at your website on their phone and it is hard to navigate, and all the text and images are all over the place. Guess what? They won’t be staying on your site for very long. If this becomes a recurring theme for website visitors, this will not bode well for you search engine rankings.

The Importance of Your Google Business Profile and Having NAP’s

Arguably more important than having a website these days is having a Google Business Profile (GBP). When most people search for anything these days they go straight for the Maps feature, especially when looking up any local business service or products they want.

If your business is showing up on Google Maps (e.g., no GBP) then you are loosing business right off the bat. Nearly as bad as not having a GBP, is by having a GBP that is missing key information. You must optimise your GBP.

How can you do this? By having NAP’s. unfortunately this doesn’t mean taking your website for some shut eye. This is your Name, Address, Phone Number. You must have them filled in and up to date.

You also want to make sure that ALL the other fields are filled out. You must have photos, reviews (answer the reviews too), and respond to any FAQ’s. You must also make sure that your websites URL is present. By having a fully optimised GBP you will be 7x more likely to get people looking at your business, and in turn your website.

Help Google to Help You

A lot of the time it may seem as if you are fighting Google to get your website to rank highly. There is an element of having to hustle and bustle to the top. However, Google wants you to rank highly. It does try to, but it cannot do this alone.

You need a sitemap. A clear layout of how your website is formulated and how all the pages link together. Once Google knows how your website looks it can show more people the relevant pages based off their searches. All you need to do is go to the Google Search Console to submit your sitemap – it is straightforward, and Google tells you what is required.

Now we can take this to the next level by introducing some FREE SEO. Think about any time that you search for things on the internet. Your typical search might be “[service/business] in [area]”. Knowing this, if your websites title for each page is simply “[business name] – [page]” you will struggle to rank. Instead try “[business name] – [area] – [service] – [page]”.

To fully optimise this type of SEO you want to make sure your meta tag description is filled in with the correct wording. What’s this you ask? Whenever you do a search you will see the page title, then the URL underneath, followed by a paragraph of text. The paragraph is the meta tag description. You need a short (150 characters) summary of what is on the page including some service and area keywords.

Web Traffic Wizardry

To really make sure that Google is pulling its weigh for your site you want to show that you are the go-to business. You have to show how you know more than any other business. The best and simplest way to do this is with a blog page. Just like what you are reading now, you need to highlight the knowledge you have for your industry. You can cover any key topics or areas people typically ask about in 600-800 words.

To take your blogs to the next level you want to make sure you are including keywords in them. This goes for both industry and location keywords. Just think what your customers are most likely to be searching when looking up your type of business. If you pair the blog and SEO along with it being on the sitemap you are onto a winner.

Another bit of trickery is the subject known as linking. There are 2 main types of links on your website. The first is the ‘internal’ link. These are links that jump you from page to page within your website. This should not be confused with the navigation bar at the top of the site. This is any buttons that might say “learn more” or “get in touch”.

The other type of link is the ‘external’ link. Instead of directing people to other pages on your site, this sends them away from your site. Slight caveat here is that you don’t want too many of these and you should not point people to competitors. At best you will have some links to reputable businesses you have worked for and maybe your social media links.

Increase Web Traffic Without Doing Anything to Your Own Website

Once your website is optimised you want to think outside of the box for ways to induce website traffic. Similar to having a website, having social media pages is crucial for business success. Social media should act as the flags that guide people to your website.

You need to make sure that your posts provide people with value, but also provide people with the route to your website. You want to have your websites URL in the bio of all your pages. On most social sites you want to have the button that directs people to your website setup also. Not to mention, every few posts don’t be afraid to remind people to check out your site for more information or a way to contact you.

Another little secret is in fact a 3rd type of link. This link acts as a back door to your website and as such is called the backlink. It is a way that external sites point people towards your website. Any businesses that have worked with you may include your details on their site.

When Google sees your site URL on multiple other reputable sites then it will start to favour your site more. Your site will now rank higher and get increased web traffic.

If you implement all the above you will be inundated with traffic and new leads.
