Focus On This and Your Business Will Never Go Hungry Again
The last thing that any business wants to happen is for no new customers coming to be coming through the door.
You don’t want your business to ‘starve’.
This can be evident in a lot of businesses at certain times of the year due to the seasonality of most businesses.
The question becomes what are the steps to make sure your business isn’t starved at any point in the calendar year?
Unfortunately, there isn’t a 12-step plan or anything to guarantee this. However, a certain shift in how you see business can guarantee that you always spot the next best move with your business.
You Need to Look at the World with New Lenses
When you walk through a town or city what do you usually do?
You look around and you probably start thinking about where you are going, what you are going to eat for dinner later, so on and so forth.
This is sub-optimal. As a business owner you should be walking through life and thinking "how does that business make money?”, “what are they doing to market themselves?”, “how has this business convinced me to spend money?”
Most people look within their industry for ways to improve their business. Most forget that the core principles of all businesses are more or less the same. Of course, you sell different things and on some levels the business models seem completely different. Except every business is selling a product or service.
Something being implemented in one industry could very well work in another. Just take McDonalds. The Drive Thru idea was taken from another industry.
You need to always have your metaphorical money goggles on. You need to walk through life assessing all the ways that money is being transferred from person to business and business to business.
How to Make Your Business Stronger than Ever
You need to build your armour up as a business. You need to be a strong force that cannot be easily taken down.
Every business has weaknesses. Nobody has a perfect business, there is always something to be improved upon.
You want to make sure that none of these weaknesses are small enough cracks in your armour that could seriously hurt you if attacked.
Here are some of the common weaknesses and the quick ways to fix them:
- Your website:
o You need to keep it up to date.
o It should be easy to read and for people to scroll through and find what they need – most important thing is the method in which you want people to contact you.
o DO NOT have Tolkein sized paragraphs on your website. No one will read them.
- Your social media pages:
o Be set up on the important pages. This is of Facebook and Instagram for most local businesses. Some may even benefit from TikTok or LinkedIn.
o You need to be somewhat active. You don’t need 4-5 posts a day but should not be leaving a post for every 4-5 months.
o They also don’t need to be super fancy and high-quality. Of course, not a photo from a Nokia.
o Just show people you are still around doing what you do best.
- Your Google page:
o If you don’t have a Google Business Profile, then you NEED one.
o You need to make sure ALL the boxes are filled in. If you are missing a phone number or website people won’t go out there way to find it and will take their business elsewhere.
o Reviews. They help massively. Just ask clients to give you a review, it doesn’t have to be difficult.
- If you run ads:
o Like social media posts, they don’t have to be Oscar Award winning level photos/videos, but they need to be appealing for people to take notice.
o They also need to clearly highlight who you are after/who the ad is for. Stop the whole saying your company name, that you are the best and you have 20 years of experience because apparently everyone does.
All the above may take a little while to sort but they are easy wins that make all the difference and help make your business seen and show you as reputable.
Steps for Your Business to Become Invincible
Once you have toughened up your business and won’t be susceptible to minor attacks you are ready to become a force to be reckoned with.
Again, you want to knuckle down on the basics and ask yourself: “what do I want to sell?”, “who would need what I sell?”, and “how can I best reach these people?”
Every business will have a short answer to these, but you need a detailed specific answer. Being too broad will make it a nightmare for how to best market your business. If you are not 100% certain on the above questions, how do you think a potential customer will feel? They won’t know if you are the right fit for them.
When you have a clear vision on all of this it makes it a lot easier to just think of the best ways to be getting your message out to people. You can then start to experiment with new channels or utilise what other businesses do (in your own and other industries).
This is why you need to be wearing those money goggles wherever you go. You never know when you might just find something that could be perfect for your business.
It is always better to be thinking “what else could we be doing?” early on, then waiting until your back is up against the wall thinking “where do I even go from here?”
There is money all around us. The trick is just standing in the path of where it is going to make sure you get a decent share of it.
