Changing This 1 Thing Will Get You More Customers Than Ever Before
Changing This 1 Thing Will Get You More Customers Than Ever Before
Have you ever gone online and searched for a new item, whether it be a household appliance, clothing, or anything else. Only for it to then follow you around like your shadow whenever you go back online?
You are not alone and have to let it run its course until the repetitive ads just disappear (and are undoubtedly replaced by your next internet search). This scenario of being followed by ads is called ‘retargeting’.
It is something that many businesses utilise in the world of advertising. Unfortunately, most do not use it properly. Hence why we get hounded by the same content for days or weeks on end. Believe you me there have been many a time that my computer has nearly ended up out the window.
The good thing is you don’t have to be one of those companies. There is a much better way to go about this that won’t so intrusive yet will still get the message across.
This is what I am going to show you over the next few minutes.
You Must Understand this Term to Maximise Revenue
A lot of business owners believe that people won’t buy from seeing an ad on Facebook or Google (or wherever). After all who would buy something that is multiple hundreds or thousands of pounds on a whim?
Be that as it may, people do. You wouldn’t have countless hundreds of thousands of businesses running ads all year round if that wasn’t the case.
That said, I understand where the question comes from and generally it is due to a lack of understanding of the following process called the ‘customer journey’. This being the process that every person goes through when they want to buy something.
Whether you realise it or not, we all go through most of the steps. Even if you ‘impulse buy’ something, you have most likely been influenced by some of the steps subconsciously.
What exactly is the ‘customer journey’ then?
Utilising the Customer Journey to Sell More in Your Business
Any potential customer will go through these phases before they buy something:
1. The person becomes aware they have a problem or need
2. The person makes a choice to solve it
3. The person starts researching ways to solve it
4. The person will pick some options they think are best
5. The person will buy from their preferred supplier
Pretty straightforward right? Now, what exactly is the benefit of knowing these for your business?
What phase do you think is best to try engage a potential customer? Of course, the earlier the better. The later you wait the harder the sale becomes and the more money you spend on customer acquisition.
The best place to try capture people’s attention is at phase 3 (if not earlier).
Say you manage to engage your ideal customer at phase 3 of the journey, is that everything all said and done? Not quite. Most people are not ready to buy at this phase as they are just looking for the best option. Thing is, even if they see you as the best option, they will likely forget about you.
We are only human after all so remembering a business is not normally a priority. So how do you ensure people remember you?
Becoming a Priority in Your Potential Customers Minds
It is not so much about make such an impact when someone first discovers you as it is always being within their eyeline on their journey. Imagine being able to talk to your customer 24/7 about any queries they had. Any business who can do that will definitely be the preferred choice when it is time to buy.
With retargeting this is what you can do to stay top of their mind.
As we discussed earlier, there is right and wrong way to do this. Last thing you want is to have the same message repeated to your customer 100+ times.
Instead, you want to be drip feeding them new and updated content. Stuff they haven’t seen from you yet that shows you as the expert business. A fine balance of benefits and useful information that they can implement now without having to buy.
This way people almost forget they are getting loads of ads from you as each one is different to the last and continues to build your social proof as the go to business.
The Most Crucial Law to Elevate Your Business
There are laws of the universe that are very powerful within business. The main one being the law of reciprocity.
This law states how you will receive once you have given. It is especially true and powerful within business. It is human psychology that people are more likely to give once they have been given something else.
Naturally, we are hesitant when we get given something for free. We always have that little voice in the back of our heads telling us “Be careful, what are they really after?”
However, once you assess that someone is being helpful for the sole purpose of helping you out then you start to think “I can’t believe they have helped me, I need to pay them back somehow”.
Of course, this is not in a paying for their family meal out or getting their weekly shopping way. It is the act of returning the favour that is native to us all.
You want to incorporate this in your business and its marketing. You want to help potential customers whether they buy or not. A crazy thought for some but watch how it pays dividends. The difficult sales will be long gone, and you will have more business than ever before.
